Luxembourg welcomes a star-studded line-up of guests this week when it plays host to Asteroid Day.
Astronauts, scientists and humanitarians will gather in the Grand Duchy over the weekend, as part of a live TV screening but also for public meet and greet events.
Asteroid Day is held annually on 30 June to mark the anniversary of the Earth’s largest asteroid impact in recorded history—the 1908 Siberia Tunguska event. Organised by Luxembourg not-for-profit the Asteroid Foundation, it is a global event aimed at raising awareness about asteroids. This year, it focuses on the role of asteroids in the formation of our solar system and the advances in technology to better detect, track and analyse asteroids.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to meet and get autographs and selfies with astronauts and cosmonauts, including Rusty Schweickart, Ed Lu and Dumitru Prunariu, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm on Saturday 29 June at noon at the Cercle Cité. This event is open to all.
