Pioneering musician and composer Herbie Hancock (photo Abu Dhabi Festival) comes to the Philharmonie courtesy of Rockhal.
Hancock, now approaching 80, has won an impressive 14 Grammy Awards. A child piano prodigy, he was discovered by trumpeter Donald Byrd and later joined the Miles Davis quintet in 1963 and ended up performing on iconic albums “In A Silent Way” and “Bitches Brew”. He has since played with numerous jazz greats including Chick Corea and Oscar Peterson and introduced trumpeter Wynton Marsalis to the world.
Later, collaborating with Bill Laswell, Hanckock veered into electronic pop on acclaimed 1983 album “Future Shock”, featuring hit single ‘Rockit’, and he has also performed and recorded with countless pop and rock legends.
His current touring band features James Genus on bass, Lionel Loueke on guitar and vocals, and Justin Tyson drums as well as Elena Pindehughes on vocals and flute.
