opderschmelz and the CNA are hosting a series of weekend jazz concerts and cinema screenings.
Labelled Ënnert dem Waassertuerm (under the water tower), the Open Air Dudelange festival runs from 14 August to 6 September. The festival site is the car park that serves the two venues, which are housed in the same building.
Things kick off this weekend with two jazz concerts. First up is a double bill featuring composer, saxophonist, and clarinettist Michel Portal and French pianist Paul Lay. Then, later the same evening, the Tinissima 4tet led by Francesco Bearzatti will preview their fifth album, “Zorro”. Hear them play an excerpt here.
On Saturday, pianist and a one-man orchestra Bojan Zulfikarpasic (Bojan Z) will perform alongside long-term collaborator saxophonist Julien Lourau. Then award-winning sax player Émile Parisien brings his quartet (photo) to the festival to perform “Double Screening”. Watch here.
On Sunday afternoon teachers from the POP / Jazz department of the Dudelange regional music school will present an educational concert for kids.
The festival continues every weekend with more concerts by the likes of British-based folk band Ezio, German pop star Joris as well as movie screenings. There will be food trucks and drink stands, all complying with social distancing and hygiene regulations.
