There is still a chance to catch some of the best films you may not have seen in 2019.
The Cinémathèque is screening a series of “11 Must-See Movies of 2019” that were never released in Luxembourg. The programme includes many screenings accessible to English speaking audiences.
Olivia Wilde’s “Booksmart” for instance, was described on Rogerbert.com as a “stellar high school comedy with an A+ cast, a brilliant script loaded with witty dialogue, eye-catching cinematography, swift editing, and a danceable soundtrack.”
Then there is German atmospheric WWII drama “Deutschstunde” (The German Lesson) which is screening with English subtitles. Bruno Dumont’s French-language Joan of Arc drama “Jeanne” is a long way from the mess that Luc Bresson made of the maid of Orleans story.
Finally there is a special 3D screening of Gan Bi’s “Long Day’s Journey Into Night”, which the New York Times hailed as “a moment of breathtaking romanticism that’s as intoxicating as it is unexpected”.
