Two icons of the local graffiti scene, Spike and Stick host an exhibition of their artistic project at the former steelworks in Esch-Schifflange this weekend.
Titled “Schmelz” (smelt), the artistic project is the culmination of several months’ work by Spike and Stick, who have been part of the same crew since the 1990s. The artists painted some of the biggest pieces they have ever worked on at the 62ha. site. Visitors will get to see the impressive works, some of which are up to 12 metres high.
The duo limited themselves to black and white and three basic colours--red, blue and yellow--and have created compositions that not only respect the architecture of the site, but also highlight certain features incorporated into the final pieces. It makes for a fascinating new perspective of the site and the art of Spike and Stick.
The site is earmarked to be transformed into new residential neighbourhoods of Esch and Schifflange, so this is a final chance to visit what was one of the last major steelworks to operate in the grand duchy.
