The National Theatre’s online streaming continues with a production of “A Streetcar Named Desire”.
The 2014 Young Vic production of Tennessee Williams’s American classic starred Gillian Anderson and Vanessa Kirby (familiar to viewers of “The Crown” for her show-stopping turn as Princess Margaret).
Anderson played the tragic Blanche DuBois, while Kirby is her sister Stella and Ben Foster plays Stella’s hot-tempered husband Stanley. Watch a clip here.
The Guardian wrote that the contemporary production’s director, Joshua Andrews, “has excavated the text to find what is most essential and urgent beneath it”, while The Telegraph’s Charles Spencer said he had never “seen a production of the play that was so raw in its emotion, so violent and so deeply upsetting.”
The show is streaming on YouTube for free, from 7pm up until Thursday 28 May.
