Luxembourg co-production “Flatland” finally hits the big screens this week. Thanks to Tarantula Distribution, we have tickets to give away.
Accurately described as a “neo-noir western feminist road movie”, Jenna Bass’s “Flatland” follows friends Natalie and Poppie (played by Nicole Fortuin and Izel Bezidenhout) as they flee a murder scene on horseback through the Karoo desert en route to Johannesburg. The pair are pursued by detective Beauty Cuba (Faith Baloyi), who has demons of her own--one reviewer likened her to Frances McDormand’s Marge Gunderson in “Fargo”.

As well as being a thriller and police procedural, the film delves into the issues of gender, race and class issues that face contemporary South Africa.
The film, co-produced by Deal Productions, originally screened at the Luxembourg City Film Festival in 2019.
