Missed out on last week’s Congés Annulés contest? Never fear, Delano has more tickets to give away this week thanks to the team at Rotondes.
Congés Annulés brings a bunch of cool up and coming acts to Luxembourg every August. This year’s season includes a string of gigs in the second week of August to which Delano has pairs of tickets to give away. On 8 August, German singer-songwriter Jungstötter (aka Fabian Altstötter) brings his torch song stylings to the venue. Compared by reviewers to Scott Walker and Mark Hollis (of Talk Talk), we find the former Sizzar member’s phrasing and minimal musical accompaniment on debut solo album “Love Is” reminiscent of the best of David Sylvian.
Manic US rock’n’roll quartet Daughters are up on 11 August. They reformed to release acclaimed 2018 album “You Won't Get What You Want”, which won plaudits from the likes of Pitchfork for its reimagine of “their prior intensity with blown-out, abstracted menace” as witnessed on tracks like ‘City Song’.
We also have tickets for intimate American songwriter Julien Baker on 13 August, when she is supported by local artist Bartelby Delicate. By the age 21 Baker had made two beautifully mature yet delicate albums, including 2017’s “Turn Out the Lights” which was called “a rich, moving work that creates a communion of sorts” by Consequence of Sound.
The following day, 14 August, Canadian outfit Foxwarren (photo)--featuring indie darling Andy Schauf, who was at Rotondes in 2017--play the festival. Their gorgeously dreamy and melodic songs exude languor and wistfulness.
Lastly, for now, we also have tickets for one of the most anticipated shows at Congés Annulés, the 15 August performance by Son Lux. Ahead of their next album release, we can only recommend digging into 2018’s “Brighter Wounds” with its experimental songs of about pain, love and coping that Spill called the band’s “first real masterpiece”.
To win a pair of tickets to one or more of the above shows, answer the question and complete the form below. Deadline for entries is 10 am on Tuesday 30 July.
