Director general of the Luxembourg Police Philippe Schrantz said in a press conference on Friday that from 11 May, officers will check people are wearing masks on public transport, in shops and in any places where they come into close contact with another person not from their home.

Starting Monday, members of the public will be allowed to invite up to six people not from their households into their homes and join outdoor public gatherings of no more than 20 people. In both instances, social distancing and health measures should be followed. Schrantz said police will be conducting checks to ensure these rules are closely adhered to.

Since the start of the health crisis, Luxembourg police have carried out 6,000 checks across the country and issued 2,000 warnings. Of the checks, 80 resulted in proceedings, mostly for illegal parties or the unlawful opening of shops or cafés, Schrantz said.

Interior security minister François Bausch (déi Gréng) said that it was no time to start having small house parties and urged people to use common sense in applying the new rules.
