Sparkling wines made in Luxembourg won 16 gold medals, eight silver and two bronze medals at this year’s Concours des Crémants de France et du Luxembourg.
Scheduled for spring 2020 with tastings in the Bourgogne, France, the competition was finally hosted at the Institut Viti-Vinicole in Remich between 28 September and 15 October.
Judges included winemakers, oenologists, representatives from the hospitality sector as well as journalists. They tasted crémants from five different categories: Blanc Brut, Blanc Brut Millésimé, Rosé Brut, Blanc des Noirs Brut, and Cuvées Speciales.
More than 600 sparkling wines from nine protected designations of origin and using the so-called traditional method were on the menu.
Luxembourg produces around 3.5m bottles of crémant annually, up from 2.1m bottles a year in 2010.
