The minister for the civil service, Dan Kersch, revealed these figures in an interview with RTL on Friday 5 January.

Those vacant jobs can be found mostly in the areas of education, tax administration and police—areas where recruitment has been particularly intense.

One of the criteria for entering the civil service is good knowledge of the three working languages. Since 2009-2010, foreign residents are allowed to enter some areas of the civil service, but their number is still very low: around 8%. Kersch floated again the idea of opening up more areas of the civil service to foreigners, such as IT, or prisons. However, nationally sensitive departments such as the police or justice should be reserved to Luxembourg citizens.
