As part of its market surveillance activities, Ilnas tested 12 e-bikes from different brands in an external laboratory responsible for carrying out roadworthiness tests.

The controls focused on measuring the maximum assistance speed (25 km/h or 45 km/h), braking performance, and mechanical strength.

Two of the bikes tested failed the structural strength tests.

The e-bikes concerned are the “Enik Easy”, a folding bike sold in Globus Baumarkt, and the “Flebi Jet”, a folding bicycle sold at Electricity sarl. Both bikes have been removed from sale and recalled, Ilnas said.

“These two VEAs, folding bicycles, broke and were therefore unable to complete the number of cycles required by the standard,” Ilnas wrote in a press release published on Wednesday, adding: “These non-conformities, which represent a high or even serious risk to user safety, have been the subject of national sales bans or requests for compliance.”

The public can view non-conforming products which have been recalled on the state website www.Portail-Qualite.lu
