8.9% of employees had fixed-term contracts during the second quarter of 2019, according to Eurostat figures published on 20 November.
The highest proportions were recorded in Spain (26.4%), Poland (22.2%), Portugal (21%) and the Netherlands (20.5%). Across the EU28, the figure was 13.6%.
Temporary employees represented the lowest shares of total staffing in the UK (5.1%), Bulgaria (4.1%), Estonia (3.4%) and Latvia (3.1%),
Eurostat reported on workers in the 15-64 age group, using seasonally adjusted data.
