Petrol prices: Luxembourg placed roughly in the middle of a recent ranking of the average cost of gas in 61 countries.
Despite its reputation for cheap petrol, the Grand Duchy ranked in the middle of the pack in a recent international gasoline cost survey. Luxembourg placed 27th out of the 61 countries covered in the Bloomberg Gas Price Ranking.
The US-based news and financial data firm polled the average price for the “the cheapest widespread option” in each country between March 31 to April 29, and the results were published on May 30.
At an average of $7.02 (€5.16) per gallon (3.79 litres), petrol in Luxembourg was roughly one-third less dear than in Norway, the most expensive place surveyed, and more than 10% cheaper than in all its Greater Region neighbours.
However gas prices in the Grand Duchy were approximately 20% higher than in other energy-importing nations with advanced economies such as Australia and Japan.
