Open days at the army barracks
On Sunday 9 July, more than 9000 people visited the Grand-Duc Jean military base in Diekirch.
The yearly “open days” at the army quarters offered a vast programme, according to an announcement released by the military general staff.
The military music band, which celebrated its 175th anniversary, also played several concerts. Visitors could see military equipment, such as weapons, tanks and other vehicles, with army personnel on site to provide demonstrations on how the equipment works. The many activities for adults and children were a great success.
Military service stopped being obligatory 50 years ago in Luxembourg.
