ACL didn’t support the national road association’s proposal to decrease the limit on country roads from 90km/h to 80km/h. Speed limits and other regulations only help to prevent fatalities if they are respected, noted ACL. They however supported educational programmes for young drivers as well as a continuing awareness raising among more experienced drivers.

The cause of accidents must be thoroughly analysed to prevent preconceived reactions, ACL stressed in its statement.
