The new stadium, which is expected to open at the Cloche d’Or in May 2020, was originally budgeted at €60m. On Monday, however, the council explained the total price tag will be closer to €78m.
According to city councillor Laurent Mosar (CSV), the 30% increase was due to errors in the calculation of the design offices, errors for which the authority plans to claim compensation.
The increase is also reportedly because additional equipment was requested by police, Uefa and the Luxembourg Football Federation. These include CCTV and equipment to enable 5G. The stadium will also be used to host concerts. The state is expected to help finance the additional costs.
