Adem's JobBoard redirects non-registered job seekers to the Eures platform Matic Zorman/archives

Since 28 April, Adem's interactive portal (JobBoard) listing job vacancies from companies has been open to anyone looking for a job, no longer just to job seekers registered through Adem.... at least, that's what the employment development agency announced. "Anyone looking for a job will be able to consult the vacancies published publicly by companies, without prior formality," Adem said in the announcement on 19 April.

As a reminder, the JobBoard is an interactive online platform that connects job seekers and employers in Luxembourg. Despite this "openness", people registered with Adem retain the advantage of being able to access exclusive offers for seven days, in addition to having an online profile that companies can consult, perhaps even a future employer.

But in fact, when an unregistered person tries to access the JobBoard, they are redirected to the Eures site, a platform listing job vacancies at European level, which is not quite the same. When asked about the matter, Adem provided the following explanations.

More job offers on Eures

"In order to make viewing the offers as easy as possible, Adem has opted for publication on the Eures portal, where no pre-registration or authentication is necessary. Unregistered people go through adem.lu to access the Eures portal (with a filter on offers in Luxembourg). This transfer to the Eures portal is indicated in a completely transparent manner on adem.lu. Candidates can apply directly without going through Adem services. They have, of course, the possibility of widening their job search to other European countries. The Eures portal also makes it possible to create and edit CVs, which will then be visible to all employers in Europe,” Adem explained. We therefore understand that the reason for this choice is of a technical nature, in addition to making the process easier for the user.

The job seeker nevertheless can search on the Eures site for jobs not just in Luxembourg, but also in Europe. “The Eures portal does not only show job vacancies that companies have decided to make public through Adem, but also other job vacancies in Luxembourg (companies can indeed freely publish job vacancies there, and the Eures portal is also used by private recruitment services and public employment services in the greater region). By transferring candidates who are not registered with Adem on the Eures portal, this not only allows extremely simple access without the need for pre-registration and identification, but they will also find additional offers there,” Adem explained.

The only difference with Eures, the JobBoard also lists offers for which companies want a restricted distribution. "Neither the name nor the contact details of the company will be visible on these offers, and only candidates registered with Adem will be able to view them. They will be able to apply for the offer, but their application will have to be validated by an Adem adviser," Adem added.

Apart from the astonishing redirection to the Eures site, the nuance doesn’t actually impact anyone--although it would have been easier to make it clear at the time the JobBoard was announced.
