Kies was criticised in the grand duchy for her xenophobic comments on Facebook, which she deleted shortly after they’d been widely seen by the public.

Kies shared her resignation as a member, as well as a candidate on the ADR list, in an email exchange with RTL the evening of 12 September.

Kies told RTL about her anger towards so-called “Luxos” (Luxembourgers), who do not deserve the support of politicians, in her view. She also changed her opinion on Muslims, re-designating “Luxos” as the real terrorists, RTL reported on 13 September.

However, according to RTL, the Alternative Democratic Party of Luxembourg was aware of Kies’s xenophobic tendencies. Already back in August, a former member of ARD told the party's executive board that her resignation due to Kies’s extremist opinions.

The ADR leader, Roy Reding, told RTL that it was impossible to conduct an investigation of new party members.
