The e-commerce outfit said it had “around 3,000 employees in Luxembourg at the end of 2020” and it plans to employ a total of 3,600 staff members in the grand duchy by the end of 2021.

Jorrit Van der Meulen, Amazon’s vice president for EU retail, stated in a blog post on 25 May:

“We will add another 600 employees in Luxembourg by the end of the year, and we’re now one of the country’s biggest employers. I have been in Luxembourg since 2011 and consider the country to be my home. I am proud and excited by the fact that we have grown from fewer than 300 people when I arrived to more than 3,000 today.”

Last year, Amazon was the country’s 12th largest employer overall and 8th largest public sector employer, per Statec.

Amazon said that many of its staff in the country had “roles in software development, account management, data science, machine learning, cloud development and solutions architecture.”

In its blog post, the company said it employed “135,000 full-time employees across Europe” at roughly 160 locations. Amazon had 1.27m employees worldwide, according to its latest quarterly earnings statement.
