Asselborn was joined by Belgian minister of defence Didier Reynders and other distinguished guests in honouring US soldiers who were killed or wounded during the Battle of the Bulge, the 75th anniversary of which is this year.

As part of the ceremony, they also witnessed the changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Asselborn was on a four-day trip in the US that included a visit to New York, where he met with Miguel Ángel Moratinos, the UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, and to Washington, D.C., where he is attending the Nato foreign ministers’ meeting.

His first meeting on 4 April focused on Russia relations, including the situation in Crimea, a topic which caused renewed contention during the March visit of Russian prime minister Dimitry Medvedev to Luxembourg.
