The government has announced that media companies will receive additional state aid of €5,000 per accredited journalist, up to a ceiling of €200,000. Advertising revenue has plummeted since confinement was introduced in March. Prime minister Xavier Bettel (DP) told parliament on Thursday that publishers had not opted to take advantage of the short-term employment scheme “because of their commitment to democracy and to society.”

Bettel also said the government would be looking at a “real investment programme” to help revive the tourism industry, as well as the hotel and restaurant sector.
