Luxembourg households spent an average of €1,260 on fuel for private transport, €420 on home heating oil and €100 on domestic public transport in 2017.
The figures were published by the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (Statec) on 22 August 2019.
The vast majority of households (86%) owned at least one automobile, according to the statistics bureau. Among these residents, the average fuel bill for the year was €1,440, or about 2% of the household’s total budget.
But the cost of petrol was a heavier burden for Luxembourg’s less well off. For households in the lowest 20% income bracket, fuel represented 2.8% of their total budget in 2017. For the top 20%, the figure was 1.2%.
