The Breadwinner”, by Nora Twomey, co-produced by Melusine Productions, won the Annie Award for Best Independent Animated Feature at the 45th “Animation Oscars”.

The film, which tells the story of an Afghan girl who disguises herself as a boy to support her family, is among the films nominated at the Academy Awards, to be announced on 4 March. It will be screened during the opening of the Luxembourg City Film Festival on 22 February.

Meanwhile, “Noces”, by Stephan Streker, and coproduced by Tarantula Luxembourg, won the Magritte for best actress in a supporting role (Aurora Marion) and the Magritte of the best costumes (made by Belgian-Luxembourger Sophie Van Den Keybus) during the eighth edition of the Belgian cinema awards, which took place on Saturday in Brussels.

The film tackles the subject of arranged marriages and has garnered several awards and nominations at international films. It is also nominated for the César in the “best foreign film” category, the winners of which will be announced on 2 March.
