The United Arab Emirates is perhaps more renowned for global cities like the skyscraping Dubai with its super-malls, or the capital Abu Dhabi, home to the magnificent new Louvre museum with its Eiffel-tower inspired dome roof. However, Ras Al Khaimah boasts authenticity, 7,000 years of culture and a sun-soaked coastline.

Stretching as far as the eye can see, Ras Al Khaimah has 40 miles of natural coastline. Think white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and top-class resorts offering a myriad of water-based activities. Why not try paddle boarding or kayaking amongst the mangroves by the man-made Marjan island, or for a more adrenaline-pumping experience, go jet skiing or wakeboarding. With year-round sunshine, the beach is just calling out, begging to be lazed about on.

Don’t miss out on the emirate’s natural beauty and the terracotta-toned deserts inland. With activities such as dune-bashing, they’re a playground for adventure! The aforementioned activity sees you being zipped around in a 4x4 by a driver, the sand dunes making for a rollercoaster ride. For something a little less bumpy, head out on an excursion to the Bedouin Oasis Camp. Camel riding and sand boarding await, followed by a traditional barbeque dinner and a belly dance performance. Finish the evening with a shisha pipe around the camp fire, before spending a night under the stars in an exquisite traditional Bedouin hut.
