As RTL reported, Baum said on Wednesday morning that once the faction is complete, he wants a vote to take place.

Baum, a resident of Junglinster, joined the party in 1996 and became municipal councilor at just 26 years of age. He was elected secretary general of the DP on 28 June 2014 and has also chaired the family and integration commission in the Chamber of Deputies, among other roles.

Pim Knaff (DP) is set to replace Eugène Berger at the chamber.

In a statement on the DP website, the party said it was “deeply saddened by the loss of their colleague”, praising Berger’s enthusiasm, political commitment, as well as “his passion, devotion and humanity”.
