Bitcoin ended trading on Sunday at $7,373, having reached a high of $7,413 earlier in the day, according to Bitstamp’s website accessed on Monday morning.

It broke the $7,000 mark for the first time on Thursday.

The value of bitcoin has continued to rise since Tuesday, when CME Group, the world’s largest options and futures exchange, said it would launch a bitcoin marketplace later this year.

Coinmarketcap, an industry information site, said the total market capitalisation of all cryptocurrencies together exceeded $200bn on 3 November. That put “their reported market value at more than that of U.S. banking giant Citigroup,” reported the Reuters news agency.
