Felix Braz (déi gréng) suffered a heart attack on 22 August.

Speaking in a press briefing at noon, Xavier Bettel (DP) explained that the 53-year-old would remain in an intensive care unit in Belgium. Braz has been taken off life support and is reportedly in a “semi-conscious state”.

Bettel further confirmed that culture and housing minister Sam Tanson (déi gréng) would take over his mandate as justice minister. Since the heart attack, defence, internal security and transport minister François Bausch (déi gréng) had temporarily occupied the role on an ad hoc basis.

“During the temporary assignment period, Minister Tanson has full authority over the minister of justice's responsibilities. During this period and in the exercise of this jurisdiction, Sam Tanson will sign as minister of justice,” the government said in a statement issued on 6 September. “During this period, the government will regularly assess the situation and adapt these measures if necessary. The government will inform the press about these developments and in the meantime asks to respect the privacy of the minister and his family.”
