The government said on 23 August that Braz has been in “intensive care in Belgium” since Thursday.

The statement did not specify the nature of the cardiac episode or Braz’s current condition. “For now, the government cannot communicate more details and requests that the privacy of the minister and his family be respected,” the ministry of state said.

Braz, a member of the Green party, has been deputy prime minister (a role he shares with LSAP minister for the economy Étienne Schneider) since December 2018 and justice minister since December 2013.
