Bettel wants to limit negative impact of Brexit

Prime minister Xavier Bettel says that pragmatism and thinking outside the box will be required when it comes to discussing financial services as part of any post-Brexit trade deal. Bettel’s comments, made to Bloomberg as part of a survey of the 27 remaining governments, indicate he is softening his approach.  “While I stick to the principle that there can be no cherry-picking, I still think that we should refrain from an orthodox or binary thinking,” he said. “My top priority would be to limit the negative impact for both sides. Pragmatism will be needed in these negotiations on both sides.”

Vakanz results suggest economic optimism

More than 29,000 visitors flocked to Luxexpo The Box over the weekend to attend the annual Vakanz fair. That is over 6,000 more than the previous year, and an increased interest in travel and holidaying suggests Luxembourg residents are optimistic about the country's economic fortunes. Luxexpo CEO Morgan Gromy said that the work of his team and the fair’s partners contributed to its success and had laid the groundwork for the 2019 edition.

Luxembourg beat Slovakia in handball qualifying

Luxembourg’s men beat Slovakia 28:27 in a sensational match at the Coque on Sunday. The final match of the qualifying group for the World Cup was played in front of 850 spectators and followed a disappointing away defeat to Finland earlier in the week. Luxembourg managed to snatch victory in the final seconds after Slovakia had equalised with a 7-metre with just 17 seconds remaining. The result left Luxembourg with 3 points from the qualifying group--the team had managed to draw with Finland at the Coque back in October and also suffered a 19:36 defeat to Slovakia as well as two losses to group winners Russia.
