Marleen Crockett first heard about the BLC by chance on the plane the day she moved to Luxembourg

Dutch national Marleen Crockett arrived in Luxembourg in October 2017 and joined the British Ladies Club in January 2018.

Delano: How did you find out about the club?

Marleen Crockett: I first heard about the BLC on the plane the day I moved to Luxembourg, can you believe it! My two young daughters and I happened to sit behind a lady whose daughter was a member, and she told me about it.

What is your role in the club?

I am the area reps coordinator. Luxembourg, as a country, is divided into areas and each area has a representative. The reps organise monthly events in their areas. These events are open to members from all areas and it’s a lovely way to meet other members and explore different areas of Luxembourg at the same time. I communicate any relevant information from the committee meetings to the area reps and vice versa and take part in events when I’m available.

In your opinion, what is the best thing about being a member of the club?

It is a great way to build your social circle and has majorly contributed to enjoying life in Luxembourg. I think I would’ve felt quite lost and lonely without it!

Do you have a favourite memory of your time with the BLC?

My favourite memory is the first time I took my children to Pipsqueaks at someone’s house. It felt so warm to be invited into someone’s home, especially since I was practically a stranger for them at the time, where the children shared the toys and the adults shared a coffee and a chat- Pipsqueaks, in case you didn’t know, is the children’s club within the BLC; currently there a four weekly meet ups.
