Nearly 8,000 planning permissions were granted in 2017, according to Statec (PDF). That’s an increase of 24% over the previous year, and close to the figures recorded in 2014 and 2015.

The statistics agency said in its “Conjoncture Flash – July 2018” report that the rise in building authorisations was:

“mostly due to non-residential construction projects, although the residential sector is also registering significant growth (+13%). In terms of overall planning permission for projects, the number of housing units is slightly above 5,000 (+4%).”

Statec reported that planning permissions were up 11% between 2016 and 2017 across the entire euro zone.
