- Xavier Bettel, Luxembourg’s prime minister, and François Bausch, the infrastructure minister, are initialling the formal accord launching Cargolux China during an official visit to Henan province on Tuesday. The new freight airline will be a joint venture between Cargolux and several government-controlled firms in Henan province.
- The country’s first 100% electric Volvo buses have been serving the streets of Differdange since the beginning of June. The four buses are operated by Sales-Lentz, which also has 12 electric-hybrid and 30 traditional-hybrid buses in its fleet.
- Under a new scheme unveiled this week, the state will subsidise each new job post--in the public, semi-public or not-for-profit sectors--that will be given to a long-term unemployed worker. “We prefer to invest in employment, rather than finance the dole,” Nicolas Schmit, the labour minister, said on Monday.
- Axa Wealth Europe, a one-year-old Luxembourg unit of the French insurer Axa, has just been tasked with managing a nearly €90m investment portfolio.
- Aiva, a startup that uses artificial intelligence to compose music, is being paid €1,500 by the state for its national day song. The specially-commissioned piece will be performed during the official national day ceremony at the Philharmonie, much to the objection of the Luxembourg Federation of Composers (Fédération luxembourgeoise des auteurs et compositeurs). The sum was disclosed by Xavier Bettel, the prime minister and culture minister, in a response to a parliamentary question from Octavie Modert, a former culture minister.
