Responding to a parliamentary question from Mars Di Bartolomeo (LSAP), Étienne Schneider (LSAP) explained that the illness, which is spreaded by ticks, remains a major concern.

A new law which entered into force on 1 January 2019 makes it compulsory to report certain diseases, among them Lyme disease.

Schneider explained that “the diagnosis of Lyme disease can never be established solely on the basis of isolated medical analytical testing, but that it requires a compatible clinical picture. For this reason, the declaration of this disease must be made by the treating physician who examined the patient.”

The Scientific Council for Health has not yet given its opinion on the diagnosis or treatment of Lyme disease. “However, it should be noted that the Scientific Council makes available to any doctor who so wishes a free registration in the DynaMed Plus database, which also contains recommendations for good practice in Lyme disease,” Schneider wrote.
