Mobility: The national railway company has produced an animated preview of its new Red Bridge station and the funicular that will connect it with the Kirchberg plateau.
A video released this week by CFL illustrates how passengers will use the new station and the 40m cable car linking it to a tram stop on avenue John F. Kennedy near the European Investment Bank and Philharmonie.
During off peak hours, it will take a total of about 4 minutes to get between the train and tram stations, including the 63 second funicular ride, the railway said. The Kirchberg facility will also feature Vél’oh bikesharing and city bus stations.
Red Bridge station will be served by train lines running to and from Diekirch and Esch-Alzette, as well as Belgian, French and Germany commuter trains. The CFL station will also be accessible via lifts and stairs leading down to rue Saint-Mathieu in the Pfaffenthal district.
Construction on the €96.2m project began last summer, and the station is expected to enter service on 10 December 2017.
