Speaking to Delano on Tuesday, House of Entrepreneurship CEO Tom Baumert explained that three years of work experience within the EU in any field will no longer be required for entrepreneurs applying for a permit to open an eatery or accommodation establishment in Luxembourg.

The condition is one of two optional criteria for opening a restaurant, café or hotel/B&B (applicants could choose one or the other), the other being to hold a professional diploma (diplôme d’aptitude professionnelle), vocational training certificate or higher education qualification.

“The three years’ work experience will soon disappear. It will be in May or June,” Baumert said, adding: “It wasn’t an obstacle so much as an administrative step that made no sense because it was practically open to everybody. The only people having difficulty entering were those who didn’t finish school and hadn’t worked three years.”

People wishing to apply for a permit after the change will still have to participate in the one-week hygiene course, Baumert said, however.
