Paulette Lenert (LSAP) wrote that the draft law modification dated for 29 January 2020 would ensure the health service the CNS would cover 100% of the costs of contraceptive pills, coils, diaphragms and male and female condoms for people, regardless of age.

Currently, the CNS reimburses 80% of the costs of certain contraceptives for under 29s only.

Luxembourg’s CNS began subsidising contraceptive devices in 2012 for people aged up to 24. According to the minister, the average cost of contraception for each beneficiary of the existing regime is around €60.

“At this stage, it is not yet possible to measure in detail the budgetary impact of these new measures. It is necessary to wait for the referral of the nomenclature commission by the ministry of health and the finalisation of the draft convention. It is expected that the costs will be shared between the national health fund and the ministry of health through the State budget,” Lenert wrote.
