A statement from Police Lëtzebuerg said that controls were being conducted to “monitor the respect and execution” of the news measures introduced by the government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and to protect vulnerable people. Further controls will take place over the next days, a statement said. “If necessary, penalty notices will be filed.”

The move comes as the government ramps up its #bleiftdoheim (stay at home) campaign. So far there has been no confirmation of how the state of emergency declared on Tuesday afternoon will affect the frequency of the police check points or the penalties that can be imposed.
