The cost of petroleum products rose 1.5% between August and September, the national statistics office reported. The figure for home heating fuel was 4.2%.

The price for a basket of oil products gained 14.7% between September 2017 and September 2018. Electricity rates were up 6.5% during the same period.

Statec said motorists paid 0.1% more for a full tank of petrol in September than in August, and 2% more for a full tank of diesel.

As of 4 October, the maximum price (including tax) for 98 octane fuel was €1.332 per litre, according to figures published on the Luxembourg’s petroleum association (GPL) website. That’s up from €1.2 a litre in late February. Diesel was €1.184 per litre on 4 October; it hovered around €1 in February. Low sulphur heating oil was €0.737 a litre this week, compared to €0.548 about six months ago.

There are no minimum prices for petroleum products in Luxembourg, but price caps are set by the economy ministry.
