As well as an increase in the monthly indemnity that independent artists can request, Sam Tanson explained that simplifying the conditions for getting independent status was a measure that the ministry had already been looking into. “But I have come to the conclusion that we need to go further,” she said.

Tanson was joined for a discussion on 100,7 (in Luxembourgish) by theatre director Anne Simon, jazz musician Maxime Bender and Yasin Özen from the ALTA association of film technicians, who is coordinating lobbying for all film sector federations. Indeed, artists from all disciplines have been brought together by the crisis, Özen said. He hoped such solidarity would continue when the culture scene starts work again.

Tanson said that 936 cultural events had been cancelled since the beginning of confinement in March and running up to September. And while Bender said that musicians had banded together to create online platforms for live performances from their homes, Anne Simon--who had also put together some performances via the Volleksbühn collective--said that she was concerned culture would be devalued by too many free online events.
