Despite the poor weather forecast, restaurateurs in the country went ahead with the reopening.

The Hostellerie du Grünewald in Dommeldange used the past weeks to refurbish its outdoor areas. A pétanque court was moved to allow more space and the restaurant will be offering hot soups to customers outside.

The Kulturfabrik in Esch-sur-Alzette started a DJ set at 6am, when its outdoor space was officially allowed to welcome guests. Around ten customers dropped by for a coffee or glass of crémant to mark the occasion. But future opening hours will depend on the weather improving, the venue said.

Restaurants with a heated terrace were in high demand, with newly opened OiO in Luxembourg City saying its lunch service was fully booked for the coming two weeks. And plenty of seats were also occupied at Wëllem in Place Guillaume, which invested in covering and heating its outdoor seats.

For venues with an uncovered terrace, conditions are more difficult. Bazaar, also in Place Guillaume, received 1,978 booking requests over the coming two weeks but expects many will stay away if the weather doesn’t improve.
