The timing could not have been better--uncharacteristically hot April weather has drawn out the crowds as well as the wildlife to the sundrenched terraces of the venue since then.

According to the city authority, the original concept of the pavilion was drawn up in 1977, by architect Pol Holweck. The idea was to create a place selling just drinks, but it rapidly became a much-loved haunt for families and nature lovers spending time in the park.

The €3.2m renovation and extension means the building can now accommodate park equipment and park operations, a kitchen and hygiene facilities all on one site.
