Figures published by the government on Wednesday show that the 2017-2018 “Wanter Aktioun”, from 1 December 2017 to 31 March 2018, recorded a 9% drop in day centre visits and a 5.5% increase in night centre visits.

In total, the night “foyers”, as they are called, recorded 767 overnight stays, equivalent to 6.39 more per day during the period of the campaign. The busiest night was recorded on 11 February, when night foyers accommodated 170 people.

Luxembourg recorded its second mildest January since 1947, with average temperatures of 4.5°C but, the temperature dropped considerably in February, when the average was -1.3°C.

The Wanter Aktioun (Winter Action) is a multi-organisation cooperation initiative to ensure people sleeping rough have access to food, shelter and other services during the coldest months. Its main centres include the night shelter in Findel and a day shelter in Bonnevoie.
