The centre in its annual report published last week said it treated 203 complaints in total, with 19 cases carried over from the previous year as they had not yet been resolved. “This represents a new record since the creation of the CET,” the organisation said.

Foreigners lodged more than half of the complaints.

In 49 cases, people reported discrimination because of a disability, with discrimination because of ethnic origin (44 cases) or sex (39 cases) in second and third place.

The CET said it was able to resolve 104 cases or at least support the victim in seeking help with another institution. One in five cases is ongoing. In 43 cases, the victim withdrew their complaint, while in 22 cases the CET could not confirm that an act of discrimination had taken place, for lack of evidence or because the complaint didn’t fall within the remit of the organisation.

In its 2019 annual report, the CET reported treating 155 discrimination complaints.
