Lux-airport has not confirmed the cause of the diversions, however, a Twitter account posted late on Tuesday that a “small aircraft missed its landing, so it crashed on the runway.”

A number of disgruntled passengers took to Twitter overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, some complaining of delays to shuttles running to Frankfurt Hahn.

Lux-airport tweeted early on Thursday that the runway had reopened, however, its website said that two flights, to Amsterdam and Frankfurt had been cancelled and some flights might be delayed on Thursday.

It added that it expected further delays to departures and arrivals and urged anyone expecting to fly to contact their airline for more information.
