15 of the 22 EU member states with second quarter figures available experienced a decline of more than 50% (compared to the second quarter of 2019), per Eurostat.
The biggest slides were recorded in Ireland (-94%), France, Spain and Luxembourg (all -78%) and Italy (-77%).
The smallest shrinkages in rail passenger numbers were recorded in Romania (-47%), Bulgaria (-37%) and the Netherlands (-0.2%).
Eurostat, the EU statistics bureau, released the data on 5 November.
