A large Luxembourg cable company said only digital channels would be carried starting on Monday 6 November.

Without a newer set or converter box, chances are high that viewers will see nothing but noise (or snow) when they turn on their TV.

Terrestrial broadcasts in Luxembourg were switched off in 2006, and cable and satellite TV began to transition to digital in 2010.

Eltrona Television, one of the biggest cable companies in the grand duchy, announced last Thursday that their programmes will be switched to digital-only reception this week. If they haven’t already done so, its customers need to buy a digital decoder to continue watching cable TV.

According to LeQuotidien, Eltrona offers more than 250 programmes and is currently used in more than 80,000 households.

Digital decoders can be bought at Eltrona or from other operators such as Télé vun der Post, Tango TV, SFR Telenet and Orange.
