Politics: Amcham, together with Delano and the European Parliament’s Information Office in Luxembourg, is hosting a town hall meeting with local candidates for the European Parliament elections.
Amid all the talk of a strong anti-European vote at next month’s European Parliament elections, the focus has been lost that these are perhaps the most significant EP elections to date. Because according to the Treaty of Lisbon the new parliament will be able to recommend to the council of ministers its candidate for the next president of the European Commission.
That could be Luxembourg’s Jean-Claude Juncker, who is the head of the European People’s Party list, which could well end up with the largest voting block in the parliament.
In Luxembourg, nine parties are putting up candidates for the six seats the Grand Duchy has in the European Parliament. Representatives from most of those parties will be at a town hall style meeting o Tuesday evening (April 29), hosted by Amcham in association with Delano and the European Parliament’s Information Office in Luxembourg. The guests include Gina Arvai (Déi Gréng), Sven Clement (Piratenpartie), Marc Angel (LSAP), Frank Engel (CSV), Claude Radoux (DP), Roy Reding (ADR) and Fabienne Lentz (Déi Lénk).
The debate, in English, will be moderated by Delano’s editor in chief Duncan Roberts and there will be a chance for the audience to pose questions.
Entrance to the event at the Centre Barblé, route d’Arlon, Strassen, is free of charge, but pre-registration via the Amcham website is required.
