The number of people who have undergone euthanasia since the law governing the medical procedure as well as assisted suicide was introduced 10 years ago.
The president of the Luxembourg association for the right to die with dignity said that the number is relatively low compared to other countries. Jean-Jacques Schonckert told RTL television that patients and doctors are simply not well enough informed about the law.
The introduction of the law in March 2009 sparked a change in the constitution when Grand Duke Henri refused to sign it, citing religious reasons. The grand duke no longer has to sanction laws, but simply to enact them.
