At the first sign of smoke, call emergency services on 112.Photo: Pixaby.com

According to a statement released on 25 July 2018:

“It is essential to exercise vigilance in the forest during this period of drought, especially since most fires are man-made. The fight against fire begins with caution: avoid making a fire (grilling for example), refrain from throwing cigarettes away and avoid leaving pieces of glass around that can magnify and start a fire.”

Authorities also recommend that you:

“Park your cars only on non-combustible surfaces, asphalted or paved, and leave access to forest roads clear to allow the passage of emergency services. As for walkers, be certain that the paths you take will allow you to quickly get out of the forest in the event of a fire.”

Should you see any smoke, inform emergency services immediately by calling 112 and stay on the phone until the emergency operator has all the relevant information.
